2018 Mustang Revealed
Yesterday was a big day if you are a Mustang Enthusiast - the new 2018 Mustang was revealed at the Farmers market in Los Angeles - here are all the new specs.
At first glance it does not appear Ford have changed too much but there are some subtle differences when you start to look closer.
Exterior: The front of the 2018 Mustang has actually been lowered with a redesigned hood to improve aerodynamics, this also gives the car a more aggressive look when combined with the re-designed front fascia, narrower front grill and slimmer standard LED headlights. Hood vents are now standard on all models
Around the back the new Mustang has a gently revised rear bumper and LED taillights. There is also a newly designed rear deck spoiler (optional trim package) along with an updated deck lid trim and on GT models there are some great looking Quad GT350 style exhaust tips with optional active exhaust.
Interior: Taking a look inside the car Ford made some nice upgrades to the interior that now features an exciting new 12" digital LCD dash that is fully customizable for various colors and different modes - Normal - Sport - Track.
Premium plus editions now get a fully stitched wrap center console and door treatment along with upgraded materials throughout the car and Ford offers this Mustang with the optional new "Sync Connect" technology that has a plethora of new features.
Suspension: MagneRide dampers are optional on all Performance packages regardless of the engine choice and all 2018 models feature a new cross-axis joint in the rear suspension and improved stabilizer bars for better handling.
Engine Options: The 2018 Mustang is now only available with the Coyote 5.0 or the base engine 2.3L Ecoboost - The V6 is now officially gone from the Mustang line up for now at least - so they say - how about a V6 Ecoboost soon?
Transmission: Ford have updated the standard six-speed manual transmission internally for additional strength for both engine options and the V8 Coyote now gets a new twin-disc clutch and dual mass flywheel to help put the power down with even less pedal effort than before.
Automatics now receive a new 10-speed unit that shifts quicker and offers adaptive shifts with less friction loss for additional rear wheel HP
Performance: The GT has gained additional ponies with Fords new direct and port spray bore injection, which should help improve its fuel economy, low end torque, and power at higher revs. They have also increased the compression ratio from 11:1 to 12:1 - Ford will release actual HP and TQ numbers in the fall.
Wheel & Tire Options: There are now 12 wheel and tire options; The car comes standard with 17" rims and optional 19" & 20" Alloy rims with new Michelin pilot sport 4 tires if chosen.
Colors New colors for the 2018 model year include Orange Fury, Royal Crimson and the popular Kona Blue, which returns to the Mustang color palette after a short absence.
Finally for us here at BBK Performance we can see why Ford are saying that the new 2018 Mustang models are the “most advanced Mustang ever".
We can’t wait to get one of these ponies into the R&D department to get some parts developed - Stay tuned for updates
